Looking over my calendar for the week, I noticed my favorite day was just around the corner. Hair Day! Thank goodness too, because my natural blonde was shining through…really grey, but let’s not be negative…blonde works for me.
So I headed to the salon, and asked Brittany to “wash that grey right outta my hair!” She covered it with my “natural” shade, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I was alone in peace with a warm neck wrap and a cup of tea.
I looked in the mirror and laughed. I looked like a TV antenna with so much foil in my hair.
I sat back in my chair and enjoyed the peaceful morning.
My phone chimed. A text. I glanced down to see that it was from my daughter, in the middle of the morning. That’s never good.
She sent me this picture with the message: my lunch just died
Confused, I texted back: ????
She responded with another picture of her soup can.
I was horrified, my hair growing greyer by the second. I just bought that soup from the store the day before, and put it in her lunch to surprise her. She was getting tired of sandwiches.
She was surprised alright. The moldy soup had a slight opening around the seal, and had spilled over everything in her lunch box.
I looked back in the mirror, and saw this
I was torn. I couldn’t exactly just leave with chemicals and foils in my hair. Not only would I frighten small children, but I might get pulled over for disrupting air traffic control or something. And then there was my sweet child, and her ruined lunch. I felt so guilty. How did I not see that?
I texted back: I shouldn’t be much longer. Can you eat in your next class if you explain what happened? I can bring you something in a little bit.
My phone rang immediately. It was my friend, Beth, who also happens to be one of Grace’s teachers. Grace was on the other end, “Mom, Mrs. M said that she has plenty of food for me. She doesn’t want you to worry. No need to come up here. I will be fine.”
So thankful for sweet friends and for my sweet daughter.
I think we will steer clear of canned soups for a while.
So much for my relaxing day at the salon…
